Benefits of Chess

Maybe this can be a great topic for the understanding of chess, if you decide to share the benefits that you received by playing this game.

I will share some:

- Stronger memory and rational thought.
- Slightly higher Intelligence Quotient (I believe chess helped me in that way)
- A place to forget the world, structure your thoughts and come back to reality stronger (at least mentally).
- the experience of a sport where i can play tournament
- an amazing human side, i met a lot of friends
- it gave me more responsibilities on the board and it helped me off the board
- to share knowledge
1. Fun
2. Feeding my inner masochist (kind of contradicts the first point, but oh well...)
3. A way to socialize (that's mainly OTB)
* Patience in decision making.
* Preventive thinking.
* Research in mathematics, literature, plastic arts, music, society, etc.
* An area of experimentation for my studies/activities in artificial intelligence.
The sole "benefit" of chess is that it is an enjoyable pursuit. Apparently though that's not enough for some people.
Chess brought me closer to my father after years of estrangement.
