Heh, I would hate to spam this thread, sorry to interrupt....
Material deficit...it would be hard to define, on the off chance that this game could be reached:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16494013/chess/endgame/anti_computer.htmlBlack's got all pawns and pieces; White just has King and Queen. The interesting thing about that position is that White forces checkmate in that game:
[FEN "1r6/5p1p/p2r4/4Q3/5K2/np1p1b1p/2p3pk/2n1b2q w - - 0 1"]
1.Kxf3+ Bg3 2.Qxg3+ Kg1 3.Qe1+ Kh2 4.Qe5+ Kg1 5.Qc5+ Kh2 6.Qxd6+ Kg1 7.Qc5+ Kh2 8.Qc7+ Kg1 9.Qa7+ Kh2 10.Qxb8+ Kg1 11.Qb6+ Kh2 12.Qd6+ Kg1 13.Qd4+ Kh2 14.Qf4+ Kg1 15.Qxc1+ Kh2 16.Qf4+ Kg1 17.Qd4+ Kh2
18.Qd6+ Kg1 19.Qxa3 f5 20.Qb2 h5 21.Qc3 h4 22.Qb2 a5 23.Qc3 a4 24.Qb2 Kh2 25.Qe5+ Kg1 26.Qf4 b2 27.Qd4+ Kh2 28.Qe5+ f4 29.Qxf4+ Kg1 30.Qe3+ Kh2 31.Qe5+ Kg1 32.Qxb2 Kh2 33.Qb8+ Kg1 34.Qf4 a3 35.Qd4+
Kh2 36.Qd6+ Kg1 37.Qxa3 Kh2 38.Qd6+ Kg1 39.Qf4 c1=N 40.Qxc1+ Kh2 41.Qc7+ Kg1 42.Qf4 d2 43.Qxd2 Kh2 44.Qd6+ Kg1 45.Ke2 h2 46.Qd1#
But it's not like anyone on this site is ever going to reach that position in an honest game, so this is probably a bad joke...sorry. I guess the idea is that I favor winning with a material deficit,
which doesn't always work to my advantage.
True enough, as thibault says, it is difficult to define to a computer, without creating a huge list of exceptions.
