What I learned about decision making from chess
Specifically chess tournamentsAs a beginner, I've noticed bad decision making on my part often follows from:
- Changing my mind at the last moment, and not thinking the change through.
- Making a "lazy"/"interesting" move without calculating because I get lazy. My intuition is nowhere near good enough for that.
- Only thinking about my side and not what the opponent will do in response. The opponent has just as many options for a response, including the most basic: Checks, Captures, Attacks.
Avoid being lazy and not thinking at all times!
