quiet moves in tactics

#8 / JK Knight
I should try that again. Tried that on chesstempo, wasn't particularly thrilled by the results, but maybe i just encountered problems which weren't focusing on my blind spot.

I am looking at positional games at the moment, yes. My style is quite aggressive and dynamic, but I wanna add a silent and strategic way of approaching positions. This will serve many purposes such as improving my intuition, my stamina and patience as well as the quality of my play in general.

I don't think it's accurate to deploy this model on chess, since you're not a team when approaching a chess position but just one person.
Some argue that there is a correlation between a person's playing style and their character.
I agree to a certain extent, not being sure about my chess.
I guess, I have something of a plant, a monitor evaluator and a finisher. The latter, I think, possesses a paradox trait for being called a finisher.
Being a perfectionist often hinders you from coming to efficient solutions and you end up solving one issue very well but neglect the rest. I see a bit of that in play as well, since I often get into time trouble.
I hope my tactic example could give you an image of what I mean.
PS: Have you heard of the 16pf (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16PF_Questionnaire) ?
Also very interesting when it comes to personalities and chess.

Cheers!
Yes I heared about the 16PF.
One question in analysing a person is, where do the ideas come from. You look at your friend-network and copy good ideas? You find them by long thinking? You need feedback from your friends before you try out?
If you just watch a single person you see intersting stuff but if you watch a person in a group (maybe of friends) there is much more to see or even not to see.
Like we have knights, bishops, rooks, ... there are different types of human characters and yes they are mixed.
Like in chess a position has different patterns at the same time. The fork and the pin in combination with the checkmate thread make the win combination.
Plant, Monitor Evaluator,.. are simple patterns you can build more complcated by your own and find the conections.
Show me how you play chess and I show you who you are ;-)
I even think the way you put your purchase on the conveyor belt gives some information about your personality and your mood at this time.
If your eyes are wide open and your interested in finding patterns there is much to find out. bad news is that the people who trick you are more involved in this than the usual citizen.

the tactic exampe is good and I also have the games you've played. It'll take some days but I'll write again here.

by the way a good training is to find the belbin team roles in novels.. for example in Harry Potter.. easy one is Hermione :-)
Hey again!

Another thing to keep in mind is that when playing with shorter time controls tactics and being aggressive has a large psychological factor to it. Also, games OTB can be profoundly affected by these aspects as well.

However, if you play correspondence (Let us say 3 or 7 days per move), then you have a richer experience because now you can explore the different moves and what types of positions subtle moves in the opening can lead to. You will have plenty of time for instance to study pawn structures, but also discover and explore your own playing style because it will challenge how you view and act in the opening.

When I personally play correspondence I think it adds to my experience by a ton just to discover what will happen if I play Nf3 before Nc3 or if I play a3 before Bc4 etc...

In other words, the strategic and positional approach is very much present and alive when playing correspondence, whereas in shorter time controls attempts for complications and tactical positions are usually dominant. Hope you get my point and that you don't feel bored to death by the thought of correspondence... :)

Best regards,

JKnight
